Having reviewed Age-ing to Sage-ing’s lessons last year, the group began this year to explore other writings, including Angeles Arrien’s Eight Gates of Wisdom and a book of one of our members, Marjory Bankson, Creative Aging: Rethinking Retirement and Non-Retirement in a Changing World.

Specific articles have also provided a foundation for our discussions, including the Stanford Report on happiness versus meaningfulness, and “The Dangerous Myth of Reinvention” from Marc Freedman’s blog. We have also begun planning an encounter on spiritual eldering for our greater Washington, DC, area, date to be determined but currently imagined as a half-day Saturday or Sunday gathering that would explore themes of gratitude, forgiveness and our empowerment as wise elders. Our purpose is to raise the profile of Sage-ing International and spiritual eldering in this area. In addition to persons from the SI database, we have recently expanded to include  students of one member’s OLLI class on the wise elder movement.
